PURPOSE: To provide the subject pigment dispersant composed of an acrylic resin component adsorbable on a pigment and a polyester resin component constituting a solid-repelling layer.
CONSTITUTION: A pigment dispersant characterized by its composition composed of a copolymer synthesized by copolymerizing (a) 40-97wt.% macromer containing a vinyl group or an isopropenyl group at the molecular terminal and having a number-average molecular weight within a range of 500-20000, (b) 3-60wt.% tertiary amino group-containing comonomer and/or copolymerizable monomer having a basic nitrogen-containing heterocycle and (c) 0-47wt.% copolymerizable monomer except the above-mentioned (a) and (b) components and having 1000-100000 number-average molecular weight and 10-200mg-KOH/g amine value. Excellent in compatibility with wide resins and capable of improving dispersibility of a pigment. Free from yellow discoloration during baking and curing since an acrylic resin having a tertiary amino group or a basic nitrogen-containing heterocycle is used as an adsorbable component. Capable of providing a coating film excellent in gloss and leveling and capable of providing a coating material excellent in shelf life.
