To provide a pigment dyeing method having high fixing ratio of pigment, excellent fastness to rubbing and washing and uniformly dyeable to give a good texture.
The pigment dyeing method includes a step of uniformly dispersing a pigment component in an aqueous dispersion medium to prepare a coloring composition of the pigment, a step of immersing an animal fiber structure having a sheet form and produced by a woven fabric, a knit fabric or a nonwoven fabric in the coloring composition, a step of squeezing the animal hair fiber structure immersed in the coloring composition in an extended state with a nip roll to remove the liquid and to be impregnated with the coloring composition to the fiber constituting the animal fiber structure, and a step of drying the liquid-removed animal fiber structure in an extended state to uniformly dye the fiber constituting the animal fiber structure with the coloring composition, and further includes a step of performing a hydrophilicizing treatment by removing the surface hydrophobic layer of the fiber constituting the animal fiber structure, before the step of immersing the animal fiber structure in the coloring composition.
