To obtain a pile warp knit hardly allowing a pile to come off by being firmly engaged with a base warp knit, having strong stiffness, hardly allowing the pile to be pushed down by having a short pile length, facilitating the embossing because of the flatness of the pile surface, having good water absorption because of the parallel arranged pile fibers, printable so that the shape side may be sharp, facilitating the penetration of an elastic resin composition, easily finished to an artificial leather, and having excellent compression resistance, abrasion resistance and washing resistance.

The pile warp knit is obtained by raising naps on a needle loop face of a gray fabric 15 of a warp knit obtained by interknitting pile yarns 13 of a front reed with a base warp knit 14 knitted by foundation yarns of a back reed, and forming cut piles 24 by the needle loops 23 of the pile yarns. The needle loops of the foundation yarn for seizing the roots 34 of the cut piles are formed into close stitches by single needle swing. The pile length H is regulated so as to be ≤0.7 mm and so as to be ≤1/2 of the total thickness T of the pile warp knit. When the foundation yarns 11 and 12 are interknitted by a back reed and a middle reed, one of the foundation yarns is preferably formed into the close stitch by the single needle swing.
