Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a pipe clamping device positive and rapid in action without needing the replacement of clamp pieces in a traveling cutter for a rectangular pipe, a polygonal pipe, and the like.
CONSTITUTION: The size of a rectangular pipe is inputted into a control device, and either one clamp piece 31 among a vertical pair and a lateral pair of clamp pieces 31 is moved so that the center of the rectangular pipe 24 at the clamping time coincides with the center of a traveling cutter 13. This is achieved by bringing the reference face 31a of the clamp piece 31 into contact with the stoppers 28 of jacks 27 moved into the set positions by the operation of a hydraulic cylinder 26. Immediately after that, the other clamp piece 31 is brought into pressure contact with the rectangular pipe 24 by its hydraulic cylinder 26 to clamp the rectangular pipe 24. When the contact position is detected by a sensor S and inputted into the control device, the release position is determined by the preset shortest release distance l.
