A band type pipe end protection member 5 provided with a gas shielding layer 7 and a polyethylene fusion layer 6 is wound on a pipe end outer circumferential face of a polyethylene pipe 2 with the fusion layer 6 set on the inside while the longitudinal end parts of the pipe end protection member 5 are overlapped to each other. The overlapped part is locally heated so that the pipe end protection member 5 is connected into a cylindrical shape, and the width directional end part of the pipe end protection member 4 connected in this way is locally heated over the pipe end whole circumference so that the width direction end part of the pipe end protection member 5 is welded to the pipe end outer circumferential face. Consequently, the pipe end outer circumferential face is covered and sealed with the pipe end protection member 5.
