Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve settling resistance and abrasion resistance by casting a ring carrier made of aluminum bronze in a piston base material made of an Al alloy.

CONSTITUTION: An Al-alloy piston is cast by a gravity casting method. A ring carrier 10 is set in a casting mold and cast in a piston base material 11. In this case, in order to make sure the integration of the ring carrier 10 and the piston base material 11, the outer surface of the ring carrier 10 is formed into a shape of having rugged portions 101. Thereby, a highly hard ring carrier can be obtained, greatly improving settling resistance and abrasion resistance.
