This invention relates to the planar display device, which is configured as a planar display device comprising a 1st substrate having 1st and 2nd display electrodes of the reflection type and the transmission type in each pixel, a 2nd substrate placed to face the 1st substrate having a counter electrode for applying voltage across the 1st and 2nd respective display electrodes, a signal line for transmitting electric display signal to the 1st and 2nd display electrodes, a 1st switching element of which one end is connected with the signal line and the other end is connected with one of the 1st and 2nd display electrodes, a 2nd switching element of which one end is connected with the other end of the 1st switching element and the other end is connected with the other of the 1st and 2nd display electrodes.
