PURPOSE: To form a clear picture image by employing barrel type slits having gentle curvature for at least one electrode in plural deflection electrodes having slits for deflecting the electron beam horizontally.
CONSTITUTION: A planar display device is comprised of a back electrode 1, a linear cathode 2, an electron beam take-out electrode 3, a vertical deflection electrode 4, a modulation electrode 5, horizontal deflection electrodes 6W8 and an anode 9. Here, the central electrode 7 in the horizontal deflection electrodes 6W8 is provided with barrel type slits 7a' the center of which are shifted from the center of slits in other electrodes 6, 8. Consequently, uneven horizontal deflection sensitivity caused through the fact that the speed of beam passing through the center of slit is lower than the speed of beam passing through the end can be compensated resulting in accurate control of electron beam.
