To provide a planar lighting device in which emission intensity is improved as a whole by improving a part of emission intensity and emission area can be widened with the amount of light volume of a light source in a uniform condition.
The planar lighting device is provided with at least one light source, an emission surface from which light emitted from the light source is emitted to the outside, and at least one pyramid-like recessed part provided in the emission surface. When each vertical line to cross the emission surface at right angles is drawn from each side of an opening part of the pyramid-like recessed parts on the emission surface, at least a part of the light emission part of the light source is located within a range surrounded by the each vertical line.
