To provide a planographic printing plate precursor which is superior in developing properties with water or a water-based developer and superior in plate wear, and to provide a method for producing the planographic printing plate.

The planographic printing plate precursor has a photosensitive layer containing a photopolymerization initiator, a polymerizable compound and a binder polymer, having a hydrophilic group at least one of main chain ends and having an acid value of not more than 0.3 meq/g on a support. The method for producing a planographic printing plate is carried out by using this precursor.
