To provide a plant-growing base material, being lightweight, having a high strength, being hardly collapsed when installed on a rooftop or the like while having the light weight, having improved handleability, operability or the like, giving a small load on a building, having good drainage while keeping proper water retentivity and enabling a plant to be grown healthily.
The plant-growing base material comprises a heat-fusible fiber having 10-30 dtex single fiber size, 1-20 mm fiber length, 20-1,000 aspect ratio, ≤15 wt.% water content and ≤6 crimps per cm, and an inorganic material. The nursery bed being lightweight, and having the strong strength and good drainability can be produced by subjecting the plant-growing base material to a heating treatment or a heating and pressurizing treatment to fuse and stick the heat fusible fiber therein.
