To provide a plasma display apparatus that can minimize the power consumption of a data electrode driving circuit as well as image quality deterioration.
An image signal processing circuit 40 includes: an image converting section 51 that has a plurality of coding tables of different display gradations; a movement area detecting section 52 by which an image movement area is detected according to a movement determination reference; an inclination area detecting section 53 by which a gradation inclination area is detected according to an inclination determination reference; a coding table selecting section 54 that selects one of the coding tables based on the results obtained by the movement area detecting section 52 and inclination area detecting section 53; a power calculating section 56 that calculates the power consumption value PE of the data electrode driving circuit; and an inclination detection control section 57 that alters and controls the inclination determination reference. The inclination detection control section 57 alters and controls the inclination determination reference so that the power consumption of the data electrode driving circuit decreases according to an increase of the power consumption value PE.
