To provide a plasma display device capable of reducing false contours and reducing sub-field length.
A plasma display device is driven, by dividing a plurality of row electrodes into first and second row groups and dividing the first and the second row groups of electrodes each into a plurality of first and second sub-groups. Then, in each first sub-field of the first sub-field group among a plurality of sub-fields of one field, among light-emitting cells of each one first and second groups among the plurality of the first and the second sub-groups, at least one light-emitting cells of the second and the first sub-groups each are sustain-discharged, while selecting non-light-emitting cells during at least a set of the first and the second periods, corresponding to the respective second and first sub-groups. With such an operation, a length of one subfield can be reduced, because another row group is sustain-discharged, while one row group is being selected as the non-emitting cells.
