To provide a front glass substrate which has a high transmittance of visible light, is excellent in absorbability of near IR rays and is inexpensive and a plasma display device using the same.
The front glass substrate which consists of colored glass containing cobalt oxide at 10 to 1,000 ppm and iron oxide at 200 to 7,000 ppm as coloring components and in which the weight ratio [W2/(W2+W3)] of bivalent iron oxide and total iron oxide is 0.25 to 0.5 when the weight of the bivalent iron oxide in the iron oxide described above is defined as W2 and the weight of the tervalent iron oxide as W3 and the plasma display device using the same. The basic glass composition consists of 55 to 75 wt.% SiO2, 1 to 18 wt.% Al2O3, 4 to 15 wt.% Na2O, 0.3 to 15 wt.% K2O, 0 to 7 wt.% Li2O, 0.5 to 7 wt.% MgO, 0.5 to 10 wt.% CaO, 0 to 10 wt.% SrO, 0 to 10 wt.% BaO and 0 to 10 wt.% ZrO2.
