Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a partition from defects, even through the brightness of a panel is increased through enlargement of an opening area, by partioning an opposite space between a back plate and a front plate by the partition, controlling a width of a discharge display cell, capable of emitting the light from a phosphor by the plasma generated by the selective application of voltage to an electrode so that the lower the brightness of coated phosphor is, the wider the width is, and forming a thick partition.
SOLUTION: In a space between a back plate 2 comprising a plurality of electrodes 8n, 8m perpendicular to one another and a front plate 3, the widths Dr, Eg, Eb of the discharge display areas of the red, green and blue discharge display cells 5r, 5g, 5b partitioned by the parallel partitions 4a, 4b, 4c having phosphors 6r, 6g, 6b on their side surfaces, are different form one another, the lower the brightness is, the larger the width is determined, so that the apparent brightness thereof becomes approximately equal to one another, and at the same time the thickness Ta, Tb, Tc of each thick partition provides the durability to the pressure added between the back plate 2 and the front plate 3, and prevents the generation of defects. It is desirable that the ratio of the sum of the thickness of partitions Ta, Tb, Tc and the width Dr, Eb, Dg of the discharge display area at both sides be made constant.
