To improve luminance of a display panel without complicating a manufacturing process, by forming a reflective layer having electric insulation for reflecting visible light on the surface of a rear glass substrate forming an address electrode and a barrier rib, and applying phosphor on it.
Phosphor 16 is applied to a rear glass substrate 18 forming a reflective layer 20 comprising titan dioxide every cell. A front glass substrate 11 forming a display electrode 12, a dielectric 13, and a protective layer 14 is overlapped on the rear glass substrate 18 forming cells having an address electrode 17 and sealed to form a plasma display panel 10. In the panel 10, the reflective layer 20 is placed on the rear glass substrate 18 in each cell, and a layer of the phosphor 16 is placed on it. Therefore, of visible light radiated from the phosphor 16 by discharge, light directed to the front glass substrate 11 goes as it does, light directed to the rear glass substrate 18 reflects on the reflective layer 20, and both radiate through the front glass substrate 11.
