To provide a PDP having a long life without causing the early deterioration of a phosphor layer.

The PDP is provided with a front glass substrate 1 and a rear glass substrate 2 which oppose each other with a prescribed space, discharge electrodes A, X and Y which are installed on both the glass substrates 1, 2, barrier ribs 17 which are arranged between both the glass substrates 1, 2 and divide the space between both the glass substrates 1, 2 into a large number of discharge cells 16, and a phosphor layer 18 which is formed on the rear glass substrate 2 portion between the barrier ribs 17. Oxygen gas is contained in discharge gas 5 filled in the discharge cells 16.
