PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of the electric propelling machine by a method wherein the predetermined amount of a sub-propellant, having an ionization potential lower than the metastable voltage of the atom of a main propellant, is mixed with the main propellant supplied to a discharging electrode to promote to change the main propellant into plasma.
CONSTITUTION: In a propellant supplying device 2, the flow amounts of the liquidized main propellant in a main tank 18 and the liquidized sub propellant in a sub tank 19 are regulated by flow amount regulating valves 16, 17 so as to obtain a predetermined mixing rate and are evaporated by carburettors 14, 15. Thereafter, they are poured into a cylindrical case 4 constituting a propeller 1 through the cathode 10. The mixed propellant, flowed out of the cathode 10, effects pre-discharging in a baffle 11, thereafter, is supplied to a discharging chamber 12. The main propellant is changed into plasma between both electrodes 10, 5 at first and the function for changing into plasma is promoted in the discharging chamber 12 by the mutual effects of the main and sub-propellants. In this case, the sub-propellant is designed so as to have the ionization potential lower than the metastable voltage of the atom of the main propellant.
