Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the change in the optical transmission characteristic of an optical fiber by the migration of a plasticizer to the fiber and to improve the easy peeling property of a jacket material and a handling property. CONSTITUTION:A polymer having >=10 solubility parameter is clad on the outer layer of the sheath of the plastic optical fiber having a fiber-sheath structure and further a polymer (A) contg. >=10wt.% fluorine is clad at 0.1 to 10mum thickness on the outer layer thereof. A soft vinyl chloride (PVC) coating layer is further provided on the outer layer thereof. The migration of the plasticizer in the soft PVC disposed on the outer layer of the polymer for forming a protective layer into the fiber-sheath structure of the optical fiber is prevented. The polymer (A) has the poor adhesion to the soft PVC resin. The drawing strength of the jacket layer is so strong at the time of working the end face that the elongating of the optical fiber is resulted at the time of drawing the jacket if the content of the fluorine is <10wt.%. The drawing strength of the jacket increases extremely high if the thickness is below 0.1mum. The jacket is liable to peel when the optical fiber is bent if the thickness exceeds 10mum.
