PURPOSE: To improve the forming efficiency without changing the specification of the active material by providing holes passing from the surface of a plate to a grid with a space in the active material, which exists between the grid and the plate surface.
CONSTITUTION: Paste is filled in a grid having grid inner frames 1 and grid outer frames 2, and the filled paste is aged and dried. Unformed active material 3, which exists between the inner frame 2 and the plate surface, is provided with holes 4 passing from the plate surface to the inner frames 1. Since the side of the outer frame 2 is not covered by the unformed active material 3, formation of holes is not required. Since at the time of forming, the through holes are impregnated with electrolyte, and quantity of the paste on the grid is much to make a distance from the grid to the plate surface large, and a start point of forming is formed at a part hard for forming. Consequently, the progress of the formation is speeded up, and while the progress of the formation in the whole of the plate is evened to improve the forming efficiency.
