To provide a plate making device capable of preventing a thermal head from being overheated upon plate making and preventing piercing irregularity from occurring upon cooling down.
The plate making device performs discrimination between a plate making area which is subjected to plate making processing by a thermal head 24 in image data and a margin area as a margin in the sub-scanning direction which is not subjected to the plate making processing. When it is determined that the thermal head 24 is overheated during the plate making based on the image rate of image data, the length of the plate making area in the sub-scanning direction and the temperature of the thermal head, the plate making device performs transferring control of a master so as to cool down the thermal head 24 in the margin area immediately before the thermal head is overheated.
