To form a plating layer by roughening a surface of a molded article made of a thermoplastic alicyclic structure-containing polymer without using a chromic acid.

A molded article is formed using a resin composition containing titanium dioxide, a flexible polymer, and a thermoplastic alicyclic structure-containing polymer. The surface of the molded article is roughened by having an alkaline aqueous solution such as a permanganate salt come into contact with the molded article surface after light is irradiated onto the molded article surface. The molded article whose surface has been roughened in such a way is plated by electroless plating to give a plated surface of the resin-molded article.
