Abstract:
To provide a nuclear reactor that efficiently extinguishes plutonium.SOLUTION: A plutonium extinction type molten salt nuclear reactor is configured in which molten salt containing plutonium is circulated and supplied as a fuel and a cooling medium to the core. Further, the molten salt is configured not to contain thorium. Alternatively, the total content of thorium, uranium 238, or thorium and uranium 238 contained in the molten salt is 1 mol% or more and 5 mol% or less. In addition, the molten salt contains transuranic element and is configured to eliminate plutonium and transuranic element. Further, after all the plutonium that can be used as a fuel has disappeared from the molten salt, low-enriched uranium and thorium are added to the molten salt to enable continuous operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
