A randomly polarized incident light beam L1 is made incident from a first fly-eye lens 1. A S-polarizing light ray L3s in a light ray L2 is reflected by a PBS surface 3a between the long side face 2b of a prism 2 and a glass plate 3, converted to a P-polarizing light ray by a phase difference plate 5 in front of each lens 4a being alternately arranged of a second fly-eye lens 4 and transmitted as a transmitting beam L4. A P-polarizing light ray L3p transmitted through the PBS surface 3a is reflected by the mirror surface 3b of the glass plate 3, made incident on the lens 4b, synthesized with a light ray transmitted from the lens 4a and transmitted as the transmitting beams L4-L4 having the same polarizing component.
