Abstract:
To provide a polarization dependent optical isolator which can be downsized and has a sufficient isolation characteristic, and with which rotation control in the direction of polarization before and after light enters is unnecessary and positioning is easy.SOLUTION: Provided is a polarization dependent optical isolator comprising two optical isolator elements and permanent magnets, with same poles arranged facing each other. A magnetic yoke is arranged between the permanent magnets, with yoke edges protruded from permanent magnet side faces. Magnetic lines of force in opposite directions are applied to each Faraday rotator, which has a polarization plane rotation angle of 45°, the direction of rotation being opposite. The optical plane of each optical element of the optical isolator elements is inclined at an angle θ with respect to a side surface of the permanent magnet, so that the optical planes of the optical isolator elements are progressively separated from each other at an angle θ as it moves away from the side surface of the permanent magnet. The light polarization plane in a forward light incidence direction is retained in the same direction before incidence to and after passage through two optical isolator elements, and the optical path of light is shifted so as to move away from a yoke edge, with the optical path being not cut off at the yoke edge.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
