To achieve polarization independency in which a waveguide type optical element operates stably even when the polarization state of an incident light is changed and also to realize the miniaturizing of equipment and the reducing of the cost of the equipment in an optical equipment using waveguide type optical elements having wavelength dependency.
This optical equipment is polarization-independency optical equipment which is constituted by providing a Savart plate 13 which separates the incident light having a random polarization state into two polarized lights whose planes of polarization are vertical mutually and emit them and a plane of polarization rotating means 15 which rotates the plane of polarization of one side of two planes of polarization emitted from the Savart plate 13 by +45° and rotates the plane of polarizatin of the other side by -45° and outputs two polarized lights whose planes of polatization are arranged properly at the incident side of a waveguide type optical element 1 having two waveguides 2, 3.
