PURPOSE: To facilitate the alignment of planes of polarization when a connection is made by embedding a wire member which differs in refractive index from a jacket longitudinally in the jacket in specific position relation with the planes of polarization.
CONSTITUTION: When a polarization plane maintaining optical fiber is irradiated with intense light laterally, wire members 3 and 3 are seen with an eye from outside because the wire members 3 and 3 differ in refractive index from the jacket 2. For the purpose, two polarization plane maintaining optical fibers are irradiated with intense light sideway and one optical fiber is rotated relatively to the other optical fiber so that the positions of the wire members 3 and 3 coincide with each other. When those positions become coincident with each other, the both are connected together to align both planes of polarization to each other.
