Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make the brightness of a color image, which is enlarged and projected on a screen, high and reduce the size and weight of the whole device. CONSTITUTION:A polarized light illumination device 10 is equipped with a light source part consisting of a parabolic reflecting mirror 2 and a light source 1 which is arranged nearby the focus position of the parabolic reflecting mirror 2 and emits white light LP+LS as indefinite polarized light, a lambda/4 optical phase plate 4 which is provided at right angles to the optical axis of the white light LP+LS emitted by the light source part, and a polarization beam splitter 5 which is sectioned in a sectorial shape and provided having its incidence surface 5 opposite the lambda/4 optical phase plate 4. Further, the polarization beam splitter 5 has an operation surface 54 which has one side contacting one side of the incidence surface 51 at 45 and the other side contacting the diagonal surface and the diagonal surface has a reflecting surface 53.
