Abstract:
To provide a crystal material with high polarizing property consisting of an easily synthesizable organic silicon compound.
The polarizer comprises a single crystal of the compound expressed by structural formula (1): X-(Si(Ar)2)m(Si(Ar)R)n(SiR2)o-X'. In formula (1), Ar represents a phenyl group or the like, R represents an alkyl group or the like, each of X and X' represents an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, -SiR13, -Si2R25, -CpH2p-SiR33, -CpH2p-Si2R45 or the like, wherein each of R1, R2, R3, R4 represents an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or the like and p is 1 to 3, m represents an integer of ≥2, and each of n and o represents 0 or a positive integer, satisfying m+n+o≤7.
