To obtain a polarizing fiber, capable of producing a varicolored color pattern by interference or refraction of light or interception of light and suitable for optical use, interiors, clothes, etc., by coating a fiber surface with a polymer containing a polarized light developing substance oriented in a prescribed direction.
This polarizing fiber is obtained by coating a fiber surface with a polymer such as polyethylene terephthalate or polyethylene containing preferably 0.05-0.8wt.% polarized light developing substance oriented in a prescribed direction such as an organic dichroic coloring matter, e.g. a benzidine based or a dianisidine-based coloring matter. The polarizing fiber is preferably produced as a core-sheath type conjugated fiber.
