To easily manufacture a polarizing film having a desired polarizing performance by a simple method without requiring a precise complicated mechanism.
This polarizing film manufacturing apparatus is constituted by erecting bearings 7 on both sides of a substrate 6, forming grooves 8 longitudinally on the bearings 7, and setting both ends of the shaft 10 of a roller 9 therein. The bearings 7 are constituted to horizontally move, and connected to a horizontal moving means (not illustrated). Further, left and right balanced weights 11 are fitted to both the sides of the shaft 10 of the roller 9. The roller 9 has many fine grooves (a) on its peripheral surface and comes into slide contact with the substrate 6. Further, flat parts are provided on both the sides and a metal foil tape 12 is wound to form a slit-shaped gap (b).
