To provide a multilayered polarizing filter which does not cause changes in the daylight colors in a visible wavelength region even when the incident angle deviates from a specified angle to change spectral characteristics.

The multilayered film polarizing filter 10 formed on the splitting plane for beams of a prism type polarizing beam splitter consists of plural films f1-f17 formed on the joining face of a right angle prism 13a of two right angle prisms. The number of layers laminated and the thickness and material of each film are selected in such a manner that when light enters the prism type polarizing beam splitter at 0±10° incident angle, both of transmitted and reflected light beams by the filter 10 give ≤20% excitation purity of daylight in a visible wavelength region.
