PURPOSE: To improve the working efficiency by installing a knife receiving plate and the pressing roller for pressing the knife onto the plishing cloth for polishing the side surface part of the knife made of stainless steel.

CONSTITUTION: The receiving plate 5 for receiving a knife 25 is fixed on a machine body 1, in close to or in contact with the back surface of the endless polishing cloth 4 which is obtained by sticking polishing grains onto the surface of a cloth etc. When the knife 25 is polished, the edge part on the grip side of the knife 25 is fixd on a movable body 12 through a supporting device 15, and the mvable body 12 is swung to bring the knife 25 into contact with the polishing cloth 4 at the positin opposite to the receiving plate 5. Then, the pressing roller 20 for the knife 25 which is axially installed onto the arm 17 of the shaft 16 installed onto the machine body 1 is pressurized to contact with the polishing cloth 4 side. Thus, the pressurization by the roller 20 is detected by a limit switch 23, and a transfer body 8 performs reciprocating motion through an air cylinder 14, and the knife 25 is polished.
