PURPOSE: To enable obtaining a stable and good polished surface by laying an abrasive tape on the surface of a polishing roll under rotation and taking the tape again in the polishing roll after paid out from the inside thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet-shaped workpiece is polished with a polishing roll 2 under rotation in such a way that the polishing roll 2 pays out an abrasive tape 3 from the inside thereof via a slit 2 on the operation of an abrasive tape delivery roll 22. The tape 3 is once turned around the surface of the roll 22 and taken in a take-up roll 23 via the slit 21, thereby being made to travel on the surface of the roll 23 at a constant speed. Namely, as the surface of the polishing roll 2 is continuously fed with the new abrasive tape 3, the sheet- shaped workpiece in slidable contact therewith can be stably polished.
