Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a poly (lactic acid) composition useful for producing a molded article which is excellent in yield strength and elongation at break, by compounding a hydrocarbon dicarboxylate having eight or more carbon atoms with a poly (lactic acid).
SOLUTION: This poly (lactic acid) composition comprises a poly (lactic acid) and a hydrocarbon-dicarboxylic acid diester having eight or more carbon atoms. A composition containing 2 to 15 pts.wt. of a hydrocarbon-dicarboxylic acid diester relative to 100 pts.wt. of poly (lactic acid) is preferred because of greater toughness. In this poly (lactic acid) composition, a preferred diester is an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid diester (a more preferred diester is an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester). The composition comprising this diester is useful for providing a molding material having excellent biodegradability. Further, in this poly (lactic acid) composition, a composition having a significantly improved toughness can be provided by properly controlling the number of carbon atoms contained in the hydrocarbon-dicarboxylic acid diester.
