Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a polyboresilazane which gives a silicon carbide ceramic having high heat resistance and hardness and useful as a reinforcement for a composite material used at high temp. by reacting a specific org. polysilazane, which is a block or random copolymer, with specific boron compds.
CONSTITUTION: An org. polysilazane which is a block or random copolymer mainly comprising structural units of formulas I and II and has a number- average mol.wt. of about 100-50,000 is reacted with boron compds. of formulas II, IV, V, and VI to give the objective polyborosilazane having a ratio of B/Si of 0.01-3, a ratio of C/Si of 0.05-2, and a number-average mol.wt. of 200-500,000. In those formulas, R1, R2, and R3 are each H, alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, etc., provided they are not simultaneously H; R' is H, halogen, 1-20C alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, etc.,; and L is a compd. which forms a complex with B(R6)3.
