To obtain a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) excellent in coloring, thermal stability, transparency, and compatibility and, in addition, producing less gas or debris during the molding process, suitable for fabricating films each having a fine external appearance, sheets, monofilaments, fibers, electric and electronic parts, automobile parts, or the like, improved in colorability, printability, reactivity, and in platability.
The PBT contains titanium whose amount in terms of titanium atoms is ≤50 ppm, and has a terminal carboxy group concentration of ≥30 μeq/g. In a preferred example, the terminal methoxycarbonyl group concentration is ≤0.5 μeg/g, the crystallization temperature during a temperature fall is 170-200°C as measured at a descent rate of 20°C/min by a differential scanning calorimeter, the terminal vinyl group concentration is 0.5-12 μeq/g, and the haze of a solution as measured is ≤10% in the solution prepared by melting 2.7 g of the PBT into 20 mL of a mixed phenol/tetrachloroethane solvent (weight ratio: 3/2).
