PURPOSE: To obtain a new catalyst with which unsatd. aldehyde and unsatd. carboxylic acid can be advantageously produced from respective propylene, isobutylene and tertiary butanol by calcining a catalyst component containing at least Mo, Bi and iron, mixing with activated carbon powder, molding and further treating by heating.
CONSTITUTION: When propylene, isobutylene or tertiary butanol is subjected to vapor phase contact oxidization by using molecular oxygen to produce respective unsatd. aldehyde and unsatd. carboxylic acid, a catalyst containing at least Mo, Bi and iron, is used. This catalyst is produced by drying a mixture soln. or water-base slurry containing the catalyst component, calcining, mixing an activated carbon powder having 1-50,0μm average particle size by 0.1-20wt.% to the calcined material, molding, and further heat treating at 300-600°C. The obtd. catalyst improves the yield of the objective product.
