PURPOSE: To obtain the subject resin excellent in suitability for an aqueous overprinting varnish and useful for a metal printing ink, etc., by mixing a specified ratio of a specified aromatic compound-derived aromatic component in a polyester resin.
CONSTITUTION: This resin contains (A) a polyester resin synthesized by reacting an alcohol component with a carboxylic acid component and having ≤500 hydroxyl number and ≤100 acid value and (B) one or more kinds of compounds preferably selected from a group of aromatic compounds represented, e.g. by formula I [Y1 is OH, COOH, etc.; Z is R1, OR2 (R1 and R2 are each independently an alkyl), etc.; K is 1 or 2; (m1) and (m2) are each independently 0 or an integer of 1 to 3], formula II [(m3) is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3], formula III [(m4) is same as (m3)] or formula IV [(m5) is same as (m3)] in a ratio satisfying that the total amount of the aromatic ring parts derived therefrom is 5 to 60wt.% based on the component (A)].
