PURPOSE: To obtain the titled fiber having high strength and small hot water shrinkage, by melt-spinning a linear low-density PE copolymerized with an α-olefin and drawing and heat-setting the obtained undrawn fiber at a specific temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A linear low-density PE having a melt index of 5W100, preferably 10W50 and copolymerized with preferably 2W20wt% α-olefin (e.g. 3W12C α-olefin such as butene-1) is melt-spun preferably at a spinning temperature of 180W280°C and a spinning speed of 1,000W6,000m/min. The obtained undrawn fiber is drawn at a drawing temperature of 40W80°C and heat-set at 80W110°C to obtain the objective fiber having a tenacity of ≥3g/d, preferably ≥3.3g/d and a hot water-shrinkage of ≤16%, preferably ≤14.5%.
