To provide a fiber-reinforced polyimide composite material which uses a heat-resistant polyimide that is solvent-soluble and has a glass transition temperature of 400°C or higher, and can be obtained by the application of a process that omits a heat curing step.
The fiber-reinforced polyimide composite material is obtained by steps (1), (2) and (3) as follows: (1) 1 mole equivalent of BPDA and 2 mole equivalent of DADE are reacted to produce one low molecular weight imide compound in which the DADEs are coupled with two anhydride groups of the BPDA; (2) the product of (1) is supplied with 4 mole equivalent of PMDA and 2 mole equivalent of DAT for reaction, thereby being converted to another low molecular weight imide compound in which the PMDAs are coupled with the two terminals; (3) 1 mole equivalent of BPDA and 2 mole equivalent of DAT are added for reaction, to thereby synthesize a solvent-soluble and heat resistant polyimide, the organic solvent solution of which is then infiltrated into a reinforcing fiber or a fiber cloth to form a composite material, i.e. the fiber-reinforced polyimide composite material.
