Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To put an anaerobic digestion process to practical use, which has heretofore been unable to be attained, by providing a polylactic acid-based resin suitable for the anaerobic digestion process and to control an amount of generated biogas by controlling the degree of crystallinity as well as the weight average molecular weight of the polylactic acid-based resin.SOLUTION: The polylactic acid-based resin for use in an anaerobic digestion process, which generates biogas under an anaerobic atmosphere, has a weight average molecular weight in the range of 5,400 to 232,000. A method for producing the resin comprises: a molecular weight lowering step where the molecular weight of a raw material polylactic acid-based resin is lowered; a melting step where the polylactic acid-based resin, whose molecular weight has been lowered in the molecular weight lowering step, is melted by heating the resin to a temperature equal to or higher than a melting point thereof; and an annealing step where the polylactic acid-based polymer melted by the melting step is annealed at a temperature less than the melting point. Crystallinity of the resin is adjusted to a desired degree by the annealing step.
