To provide a polymer composition suitable for an anticorrosive coating material, etc., which can yield a coating film with an excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, which are characteristic to lead or chromium- containing coating films, and also is free of harmful metals and therefore friendly for the environment.
The titled composition essentially comprises (i) a polymer component containing a main chain obtained by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and at least one polar group chosen from the group consisting of a carboxy group, a hydroxy group, a phosphate group and a sulfo group as its side chain, and (ii) a polyphenol compound. Preferably, from 0.1 to 3 meq. phosphate group is contained per 1 g polymer as a polar group.
