PURPOSE: To obtain the subject polymer having low viscosity and excellent dispersibility and useful for polyurethane foam, etc., by polymerizing acrylonitrile in a mixture of a polyol and a polymer polyol obtained by the polymerization of acrylonitrile in a polyol.
CONSTITUTION: Acrylonitrile and azobisisobutyronitrile are added to a polyol such as polyoxyalkylene polyol having an OH value of 34 mgKOH/g and obtained by the ring-opening polymerization of propylene oxide and then ethylene oxide to glycerol and the mixture is heated at 120°C to effect the polymerization of acrylonitrile and obtain a polymer polyol having relatively low polymer concentration. Acrylonitrile is polymerized in a mixture of the polymer polyol and a polyol at a polymerization ratio of 50/50 to 100/0 in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile as a polymerization initiator under reaction pressure of 3.5kg/cm2 at 130°C) to obtain the objective polymer polyol having a low viscosity and excellent dispersion stability and useful as a raw material for polyurethane foam, etc., having low closed cell content.
