PURPOSE: To obtain the title polymer which can be molten by heating or formed into an emulsion or a solution, can be readily used for casting, press molding, impregnation, etc. and is useful as a precursor of an electroconductive polymer, by introducing aromatic heterocyclic groups as side chains into a main chain.
CONSTITUTION: The purpose polymer having aromatic heterocyclic groups as side chains can be obtained either by producing a polymer which constitutes a main chain and reacting this polymer with an aromatic heterocyclic compound to introduce aromatic heterocyclic groups as side chains or by introducing an aromatic heterocyclic group into a monomer to be polymerized to constitute a main chain and polymerizing the resulting monomer. Examples of said aro matic heterocyclic groups include pyrrolyl, carbazoyl and benzotienyl groups. The obtained polymer can be easily converted into an electroconductive polymer by polymerizing its aromatic heterocyclic groups as the side chains to form a continuous conjugated polymer.
