Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are H or methyl; R3 and R4 are H or ≤4C alkyl; m and n are 0W4).

EXAMPLE: 4,8-Bis(allyloxycarboxymethyl)tricyclo[5,2,1,02.6]decane.

USE: Useful as an optical material, coating agent, sealant, paint, adhesive, etc. It is a difunctional polymerizable monomer having low anaerobic property, excellent optical uniformity, low hygroscopicity and high heat-resistance, abrasion resistance, etc.

PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced by the ester interchange reaction of a diol of formula II or formula III (R5 and R6 are ≤4C alkyl; p and q are 1W4) with diallyl carbonate and/or dimethallyl carbonate in a solvent (e.g., benzene) in the presence of an acidic catalyst (e.g., p- toluenesulfonic acid) at 50W150°C.
