PURPOSE: The titled resin composition having good frictional characteristics, and excellent heat resitance, abrasion resistance, and moldability, suitable for the manufacture of a friction material, containing specified quantities of a lubricant and cleavable inorganic filler.

CONSTITUTION: 30W70wt% polyphenylene sulfide resin (e.g. Ryton-PPS-P-4 by Phillips Petroleum Co.), 5W15wt% polytetrafluoroethylene resin (preferably particulate), 1W5wt% molybdenum disulfide (preferably particulate), 10W25wt% cleavable inorganic filler (e.g. talc, mica or graphite, having particle diameters of about 0.1W50μm), and 10W25wt% fibrous reinforcement (e.g. carbon fibers of a length of about 6mm or potassium titanate fibers) are compounded.
