PURPOSE: To provide a polysilazane compsn. being a precursor of a ceramic product constituted by compounding a specific amt. of a specific silicon compd. and capable of being crosslinked by the action of an amino compd.
CONSTITUTION: 0.1-30 wt.%, pref., 0.5-10 wt.% of one or more kind of aq. silicon compd. represented by formula I [wherein R is H or a hydrocarbon, Y is a group capable of receiving an amino group transition group and x is 0-3] and substantially inactive to polysilazane and capable of receiving an amino group exchange reaction buy an =NH group-containing amino compd. is compounded with polysilazane containing one or more =Si-NH-group per one molecule. The obtained polysilazane compsn. and an amino compd. containing one or more =NH group are brought into contact with each other within a temp. range from the ambient temp. to a softening point of the polysilazane compsn. to crosslink the compsn. Further, the crosslinked compsn. is pyrolyzed to obtain a ceramic product based on SiC and/or Si3N4.
