PURPOSE: To obtain a new fullerene derivative useful as a cross-linking agent and/or a nucleous constituent of star polymers.
CONSTITUTION: This compd. is a polysubstd. fullerene component having more than one substd. groups selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, amino hydroxy, oxide, nitro, amino, organocarboxy, amide and/or their mixture in the component. The preparation of polysubstd. fullerenes comprises bringing a fullerenes into contact with an electrophilic reagent such as nitronium ion or organic peracid. When the electrophilic reagent is nitronium ion, the fullerene is further brought into contact with a nucleophilic reagent. The polysubstd. fullerene consists of a fullerene component selected from fullerenes each having more than one substd. groups or their mixture.
