Title:
POLYVINYL ALCOHOL-BASED FIBER FOR HOSE REINFORCEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3246709
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fiber useful for reinforcing high-pressure hoses such as brake hoses by incorporating the original fiber with a boric acid scavenger such as catechol to prevent the fiber from being lowered in mechanical strength due to a boric acid compound(s).
SOLUTION: The objective polyvinyl alcohol-based fiber is obtained by incorporating the original fiber with 0.1-20 (pref. 0.5-10)wt.% of a boric acid scavenger (specifically, it is preferable that the fiber cords be directly imparted with an aqueous solution of the scavenger). Thus, even if a boric ester-rich brake oil such as DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 fluid reaches the fiber-reinforcing ply in a brake hose, the boric ester is caught by the scavenger, without causing deterioration of the fiber and improving the durability of the fiber.
